Position Description:

Greets and Registers all catergories of blood donors and patients. Performs front desk reception duties. 

 

Department:

DONOR SERVICES

Hours/Shift:

Part-Time; 20 hrs. /week; Mon-Sat business hrs as needed to meet departmental needs.

Education:

High school or equivalent experience

Licensure:

None

Experience:

2 years reception, clerical or other customer service experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Sedentary Work - Sitting for extended periods with occasional walking and/or standing.  Occasionally exerting up to 20 lbs. of force to lift or move objects.

Essential Functions:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

  • Greets donors, patients, visitors and vendors. Evaluates and handles customer needs or refers to the appropriate staff member.
  • Registers all categories of donors and patients.
  • Performs department clerical and data entry functions.
  • Oversees activities of volunteers assigned to the reception area.
  • Maintains waiting room and canteen areas.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of reception area office supplies and materials. Reports inventory levels to manager.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe work environment.

DS Specialist II - Phlebotomist

DS Specialist - II - Phlebotomist

Position Description:

Registers, screens and collects blood from volunteer blood donors via manual and automated methods.

Hours/Shift:

Full Time, Job Shift - Varied to meet department needs

Education:

High school or equivalent experience; prefer phlebotomy certification

Licensure:

None; prefer medically related licensure or certification

Experience:

1 year donor phlebotomy required; PLUS 1 year phlebotomy, medical, customer service or other equivalent experience. Completion of phlebotomy training program considered in lieu of phlebotomy experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Greets and registers donors and patients. Assists with various donor recruitment activities.
  • Determines donor suitability.
  • Performs phlebotomy for the collection of whole blood units or samples. Operates automated equipment to collect red cells and plasma.
  • Provides post-donation care and instructions, including treatment of adverse reactions.
  • Assures proper storage of blood during collection operations and prepares for transport.
  • Performs QC, maintenance, calibration and validation of section equipment. Reports malfunction or deviation to crew chief.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies. Reports inventory levels to crew chief.
  • Meets established collection goals.
  • Assists with the training of new employees.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized work environment.

  • Provides clerical and administrative support to the donor services department.
  • Compiles donor services statistical data from various sources. Prepares and distributes statistical reports to appropriate staff members.
  • Maintains and updates the monthly donor and clinical services statistical reports.
  • Maintains and updates the weekly double red cell report.
  • Maintains and updates the daily apheresis platelet report. Reports any failures to the donor services manager for investigation.
  • Assists the donor services manager with maintaining and updating nursing reports to track procedures.
  • Coordinates the distribution of following week drive sheets and promotional materials.
  • Reconciles donor services invoices with purchase orders.
  • Provides assistance with donor recognition programs and special events.
  • Distributes donor services mail to appropriate staff or operational area.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned to fulfill SunCoast's mission and vision.

  • Ensures that each donor is scheduled at the appropriate fixed site and at the appropriate donation interval.
  • Returns calls from the donors responding to recruitment calls.
  • Maintains and updates database of volunteer blood donors.
  • Meets established recruitment goals and standards
  • Assists the telerecruitment supervisor with various recruitment and donor retention programs as assigned.
  • Responds to calls for assistance with the donor portal and rewards store as assigned.
  • Provides clerical and administrative support for the telerecruitment team.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized work environment.

Position:

Donor Services Trainer

Position Description:

Oversees and supervises donor services training programs for all donor services volunteer donor collection activities. Conducts training for donor services collections staff. Acts as a working supervisor as needed at both fixed site and bloodmobiles.

Associates Degree or equivalent experience

Licensure:

none - prefer medical related licensure or certificate

Experience:

 2 years blood donor collections, plus 1 year automated collections, plus 1 year training or supervision

Essential Functions:

• Acts as a working supervisor of the donor services departments. Takes after-hours on-call as assigned.
• Trains new donor services staff on whole blood and automated collection procedures.
• Trains current donor services staff on new or revised procedures.
• Retrains current donor services staff as necessary for corrective purposes.
• Acts as a backup for the preparation of the fixed site and mobile staff work schedule as needed.
• Researches staff deferral rates, unsuccessful bleed rates and double collection rates for donor services staff. Reports findings to the senior donor services supervisor. Assists with corrective action as needed.
• Assists with the development and maintenance of donor services training plans.
• Assists with the development and administers the competency assessment program for the donor services department.
• Assures that all Read, and Sign documents are signed by all donor services staff. Submits to QA for inclusion in training files.
• Responsible for assuring that SOP revisions are inserted in all donor services SOP manuals in a timely manner.
• Participates in activities to further professional development.
• Other duties as required to fulfill the organization’s mission and vision.

Licensure:

None; prefer MT or MLT

Experience:

Experience:  4 years component processing or other equivalent cGMP regulated environment, plus 2 years supervisory responsibility.

Essential Functions:

  • Acts as a working supervisor for the component manufacturing department. Assures that activities are conducted in compliance with SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of effective corrective action plans in response to non-compliance, deviations, or operational problems.
  • Interviews and recommends for hire component manufacturing staff. Assures that selected personnel have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the requirements of the job.
  • Counsels and evaluates the performance of component manufacturing staff. Provides appropriate guidance and mentoring to help assure a well-functioning team.
  • Assists with internal staff problems and identified concerns. Assists with investigation and resolution of issues.
  • Prepares department work schedules.
  • Manages automated time and attendance system for department staff.
  • Assists with the development of annual competency plans. Ensures that plans are appropriately implemented. Assists with the development of corrective action plans and implements, as necessary.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of department SOPs.
  • Promptly investigates “O” reports, errors and accidents related to component manufacturing.  Assists with the development of corrective action plans and implements, as necessary.
  • Assists with the development and scheduling of product QC.
  • Assists with the preparation and scheduling of periodic maintenance, calibration and validation of instruments and equipment.
  • Participates in activities to further professional development.
  • Other duties as required to fulfill the organization’s mission and vision.
