Suncoast Communities Blood Bank is committed to cultivating the “next generation” of blood donors and high school student supporters through its 2010-2011 Generation Give scholarship program. Studies show that individuals who are introduced to the importance of donating blood at a young age are more likely to become a donor for life.
Scholarships will be calculated on the total number of registrations for each SCBB sponsored blood drive at each school during the school year. For example: a school that has 500 students register to donate over the course of the school year will receive $5.00 for each donor for a total of $2,500 in scholarships. Scholarships awarded will be a minimum of $500 and possibly higher depending on the total number of registrations at the end of the school year. Please note: a scholarship is not guaranteed for each school or student.
Students must submit an application which will be reviewed by a committee comprised of blood bank employees, board of directors and community leaders. Awards are based on:
- Accrued funds for the student’s school.
- Student’s contribution to the school blood drive or volunteer service to SCBB.
- Quality and content of application.
Application will be available by March 15, 2011
Applications are available at www.scbb.org, the school bloodmobile or our donor centers in Sarasota, Nokomis and Arcadia. If submitting an application via mail or in person, please include 5 additional copies with the original along with transcript copies, 2 letters of recommendation and documentation acknowledging volunteer work with SCBB.
If applying online, please upload letters of recommendation and documentation. You can also drop off copies at any SCBB donor center. Applications can be submitted online at www.scbb.org, mailed or delivered at Suncoast Communities Blood Bank, Attn: Scholarship Programs, 1760 Mound Street, Sarasota, FL 34236.
Deadline to apply for a scholarship is May 20, 2011. Applications must be postmarked or received at the blood bank by this date. Applications postmarked after May 13th and received via mail after the deadline date will not be considered. Scholarship winners will be notified by phone and mail. Note: Scholarships are paid directly to the college, university or technical school to which the student will be attending.
