Suncoast Communities Blood Bank is committed to cultivating the next generation of blood donors through its 2008 “Saving lives, building minds” scholarship program. Studies show that individuals who are introduced to the importance of donating blood at a young age are more likely to become a donor for life.
Qualifying high schools have the chance to earn:
- $1000 in scholarship funds (to be awarded to two students in $500 increments)
- Additionally, Century Bank will provide a $3000 scholarship to the one high school with the highest percentage of participation among the eligible student body.
Note: Scholarships are paid directly to the college, university or technical school to which the student will be attending
Scholarship winners are selected through a review process by a committee comprised of blood bank employees, board of directors and community leaders. Awards are based upon:
- Personal involvement in helping to contribute to the community’s blood supply
- Academic achievement,
- Emphasis on community service.
- Quality and content of application
Financial need is not part of the selection criteria. Scholarship winners will be notified by
May 1, 2008.
